Shirlee Frank
1928 – 2008
Barbara Archer Gallery Show September 28, 2008
The Barbara Archer Gallery hosted an amazing collection of work spanning 30 years of Frank's life. Water colors and prints danced on the walls representing the early years and the gallery was splattered with ceramic pieces from her last ten years. Simply fantastic!
Though Shirlee Frank showed her work in many group shows and one-woman shows at her Unitarian Church in Santa Monica, she never had a show of her own in a real art gallery. For one Sunday, Barbara Archer Gallery in Atlanta was filled with Shirlee’s watercolors, ceramics and prints. About 100 friends turned out and 36 pieces were sold. Though she was weak, Shirlee was there. She was well aware of what a powerful show it was and thrilled by the warm response.
She studied art at Ohio State University, the University of California at Los Angeles art department as well as outstanding university workshops and studios in Santa Monica. Frank’s work has been included in several juried group shows in Los Angeles and she has won awards for her etchings. Her work is also represented in numerous private collections in California and Atlanta.
As a prolific and dedicated artist her entire life, Shirlee Frank’s
portfolio introduces an unknown talent, now being discovered.
